In 2023 I lived in Finland for half a year. During this time I struggled with the question when are you really you and for my school project I researched that question. This is my finished work for my Documentary Photography course.
When I moved to a new country with a new environment I changed my behaviour around different people. This resulted in me not really being myself. After noticing this act, I wanted to behave more like me, but what is me? The question started: ‘When are you really you?’
When I think about who I am, my brain goes empty. Not one thing comes to mind. Why is it so important to find out who we are and maybe it is not important at all. Are we putting ourselves in boxes that are keeping us from bettering ourselves? With growing there needs to be change and change is scary. Being ourselves doesn’t need to be big, it can be in the small things. The simple things.
